Investing in children and the spirit of Ubuntu

Pupils from six different primary schools in KwaDukuza will be looking much smarter thanks to a donation of new school uniforms.

The six schools, Kearsney Primary, Mgqwabagqwaba Primary, Hulsug Primary, Glenhills Primary, Thembeni Primary and Mgigimbe Primary were given the new school uniforms by businessman, Baisil Makhathini, who wanted to give back to the community.

KwaDukuza Municipality mayor Ricardo Mthembu accompanied Basil Makhathini to the schools on February 16.

Makathini’s donation saw more than 70 uniforms including school shoes and socks being donated to vulnerable children.

Pictured during the handover of uniforms at Glenhills Primary School are Baisil Makhathini, mayor Ricardo Mthembu and deputy principal H. Harilal together with some of the pupils.

During a visit to Glenhills Primary School mayor Ricardo Mthembu thanked Makhathini for contributing towards the education of the children.

He said they will continue to mobilize other business people to ensure that no child stays away from school because of a lack of school clothes.

“We have adopted a slogan ‘every child is my child’.

By investing in primary education level we want to see these children grow and succeed in their future endeavours,” said Mthembu.

Makhathini said the mayor approached him last year regarding the challenge of insufficient school uniforms for children in the KwaDukuza municipality.

“This is not only about giving back to the community but also about instilling a sense of Ubuntu. Your problem will always be mine,” said Makhathini.
